MIDDLETOWN


Position: Library Specialist, floater, full-time, regularly scheduled 40 hours/week

Description: 
Do you like the possibility of having varied duties each day at a different location? As a floating library specialist, you’ll be trained to work at any service desk and can be assigned to various branches throughout the system as needed, including the bookmobile. You’ll provide coverage when other public service staff members are away because of outreach, professional development, or leave. Your excellent customer service will help patrons at the desk, while roving, or on the telephone. You’ll develop, create, prepare, present, or help out with regular weekly educational, cultural, or library-oriented programs and events for all ages. Your outreach within the service area would be at community organizations, agencies, and schools. Desk and roving responsibilities include providing computer assistance, reading recommendations, accepting US passport applications, and giving instruction on how to use the self-check machines, online card catalog, the Internet, print station, and library databases. Your tact and discretion will help to resolve customer complaints in an effective, pleasant and timely manner.

Qualifications: 
High school diploma or equivalent is required, a college degree is highly desired. Must have a valid driver’s license, be insurable, and have reliable transportation for travel to other branch locations. Must be provide evidence of U.S. citizenship for passport duties. The ability to help with, present and deliver exciting, lively, and animated programs, and events is needed. Must be able to adapt rapidly to change and accept uncertainty. Must have excellent knowledge of all genres of literature. Prior experience with on-line databases, using an ILS, MS Office, and G Suite tools is required. Excellent customer service and strong interpersonal skills are required. Sound professional judgment; good research skills; a positive outlook; common sense; the ability to multi-task; be detail oriented, reliable, professional; and have excellent verbal and written skills are necessary. Must be able to hear, read (including cursive), write, speak, and understand English effectively, as well as have sufficient dexterity, mobility, and visual acuity to meet job requirements. Movements such as grasping, pushing, pulling, and reaching are needed. The ability to lift, carry books and other materials, move loaded book crates that could weigh up to 50 pounds, and move loaded book carts that could weigh up to 200 pounds is needed. Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Salary: 
Rate starts at $13.34 per hour, pay is more depending on experience.

Provide excellent customer service.  Shelve library materials in the proper location according to the Dewey Decimal system or alphabetically.  Maintain shelves by shifting materials.  Evaluate the condition of materials. Pull books from shelves for holds and discards. Check materials in using the automated sorting machine. Sort book drop materials. Pull holds and weed materials from lists.  Answer directional questions. Clerical duties and other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications: 
Must be at least 16 years of age. Prior computer experience is necessary. Must be comfortable using library equipment such as computers and printers. Must be able to use conveyor belt machinery. Must be able to file by the Dewey Decimal System and alphabetically. Must have attention to detail, be accurate, organized, able to prioritize, multi-task, and have good time management skills. Must be able to work independently and with others.  Reaching, bending, lifting, and moving full book crates, carts, or bins weighing up to 200 pounds is required. Must be able to work in areas that may contain dust or other possible allergens. Must be able to hear, read (including cursive), write, speak, and understand English effectively as well as have sufficient dexterity and visual acuity to meet the job requirements. Must have regular and predictable attendance.  

Hours: 
15 hours per week. Schedule includes days, evenings, and weekends.

Position:  Library Associate, Maintenance,
full-time, 40 hours per week.

Description:
Provide excellent customer service by ensuring that library buildings, grounds, and equipment are clean, safe, and ready for customer and staff use. Travel to other branches, as needed. Routinely monitor, and when directed, perform preventative or repair work on library facilities, buildings, grounds, and related equipment. Perform janitorial and landscaping duties. May assist vendors and contractors regarding maintenance related matters. Other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications:
Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Must have valid driver’s license and be insurable on the library’s policy. Must have good working knowledge of power cleaning and polishing tools, cleaning solutions, snow removal equipment, minor repair equipment, and use in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. Must have good computer and math skills. Good verbal and written communication skills are needed. Must be able to follow direction and work within deadlines to complete projects and assignments. Must be able to work in areas that may contain dust or other possible allergens. Must be able to push, pull, stoop, crouch, crawl, kneel, reach, climb, lift objects up to 75 pounds and move objects that weigh up to 200 pounds. Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate library equipment. Must have sufficient visual acuity to distinguish letters, words, and numbers. Must be able to read (including cursive), write, and understand English effectively. Must have regular and predictable physical attendance as required.

Salary:
Starts at $9.60 per hour, pay can be more depending on experience.

Provide friendly, helpful information in the youth services department answering information and reference questions using print and electronic resources.  Create and present regular weekly children’s story times, programs, and events that are creative, fun, educational, and reflects early literacy practices. Desk responsibilities include answering the telephone, program registration, providing directional information & reading recommendations, and giving instruction on how to use the online catalog, databases, the Internet, and other library equipment. 

Qualifications: 
Must have high school diploma or equivalent. College degree desired. Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for outreach events. Must have excellent customer service and communication skills. Prior experience working with children is necessary as well as having a strong knowledge of children’s literature. Must be able to give instruction on the library catalog, the Internet, databases, and library equipment. Must be able to hear, read (including cursive), write, speak, and understand English effectively, as well as have sufficient dexterity, mobility, and visual acuity to meet job requirements. Movements such as grasping, pushing, pulling, and reaching are needed.
