Have a new adventure every day while providing excellent customer service on the bookmobile, going to various sites and helping patrons once parked, or going to outreach locations.

Position:
Library Associate, part time, 2 openings

Hours:
Part-time, 24 hours per week, generally 8:00 - 5:00 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (Job 1)
             Part-time, 24 hours per week, generally 8:00 - 5:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (Job2)

Salary:
Starts at $9.85 per hour, more depending on experience.

Your bookmobile adventure would include:
  • Driving the bookmobile to various sites and help patrons once parked.
  • Identifying routes, drive, maneuver, park, monitor, and secure the bookmobile.
  • Desk-type responsibilities include checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, assist patrons with the selection and location of books, collecting overdue fines and lost material costs, helping patrons with library equipment and explaining policies and procedures.
  • Develop, create, and present several monthly programs or story times.
  • Opening and closing duties.
  • Other duties as requested or assigned. 
The successful applicant will have these qualities:
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver license and be insurable on the library's insurance.
  • Must be able to safely drive a 30' commercial vehicle following a designated route.
  • Must have good knowledge of children’s, young adult, and adult literature.
  • Must be able to read (including cursive), write and understand English effectively.
  • Must be able to work in areas that may contain dust or other possible allergens.
  • Must have regular and predictable attendance

Middletown

Youth Collection Development Librarian, Full-Time Opening

Do you like to collaborate with others and meet the on-going and changing needs of our patrons and the community? 
Our collection development librarian’s do just that! You’ll identify, gather, and analyze data to guide the development of the systems youth collections to balance the collection development needs and expectations of the community and the library.

This full-time opening has hours that are generally Monday – Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with an hour lunch. This job is based out of our Middletown Library and you would travel to all MidPointe branches.

Salary: 
With an MLS, the range is $16.71 – $20.44 and depends on experience. Without an MLS, the range is $13.21 – $15.95 and would increase once you received your MLS. Description:
  • Provide excellent customer service demonstrating a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude towards all external and internal customers
  • Select print and AV youth titles and build carts in B&T Title Source 360 Select e-book and e-audiobook youth titles in Bibliotheca's Content Acquisition Tool
  • Evaluate youth collections system-wide using software and physically examining the shelves
  • Provide branch staff with weeding reports according to weeding guidelines and schedules
  • Identify and assess the strengths and weaknesses of all applicable collections and develop and implement changes based on this analysis
  • Discard physical materials from ILS and send to appropriate location
  • Perform basic repairs to materials such as broken spines, missing barcodes  
To Be Successful:
  • Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution highly desired, or related bachelor's degree required (pay is lower without the MLS)
  • Must have valid driver’s license, and be insurable
  • Must have collection development experience, particularly with youth services
  • Experience with Baker & Taylor's Title Source 360 and Sierra highly desired
  • The ability to multi-task; effectively prioritize responsibilities; work independently and work in teams is needed
  • Must have excellent customer service; a strong service/work ethic; interpersonal and communication skills; sound judgment; a positive attitude, willingness to accept change; work collaboratively; be organized, efficient, reliable, self-motivated, approachable and welcoming; and have communication and presentation skills
  • Need excellent computer experience using Microsoft Office particularly Excel and Word, Outlook, and other library technology
  • Must be able to quickly and favorably respond to new or changed responsibilities and/or situations, and be able to problem solve and manage frequent interruptions
  • Must be able to learn and carry out the essential responsibilities of the assigned position
  • Must be able to read (including cursive), write, speak and understand English and to communicate effectively with patrons and co-workers.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must have sufficient clarity of speech and hearing which permits satisfactory communication with others
  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate library equipment and perform general typing and keyboard operation; and visual acuity to distinguish, produce, and view a wide variety of materials in both print and electronic format as needed for position requirements
  • Must be able to work in areas that may contain dust or other possible allergens.
  • Must be able to move loaded book crates that could weigh up to 50 pounds when full, and move loaded book carts that could weigh up to 200 pounds when full

Library Specialist-Floater, Full-Time Opening

Do you like the possibility of having varied duties each day at a different location? 

The schedule will be a full-time 40 hour work week.  Each week’s schedule will depend on needs at any and all of our 6 public service locations, 4 of which will be open 7 days a week starting in 2020. As a floating library specialist you’ll be trained to work at any service desk and be assigned to various branches throughout the system, including the bookmobile. 

Job JC is based out of our Middletown library location. Sample 2 week rotation schedule:

Mon.:   10:15Am-7:15PM at Liberty
Tues.:  12PM-9PM at West Chester
Wed.:   8AM-5PM on the bookmobile
Thurs.: 8AM-5PM at Middletown
Sat.:     8AM-5PM at Monroe

Mon.:  12PM-9PM at West Chester
Tues.:  8AM-5PM assisting with homebound deliveries
Wed.:  10:15AM-7:15PM at Monroe
Thurs.: 12PM-9PM at West Chester
Fri.: 10:15AM-7:15PM at Trenton

Description:
  • Travel to different branch locations, including the bookmobile, and work at a public services desk
  •  Answer information and reference questions using print and electronic resources, and accept US passport applications.
  • Provide directional information, give reading recommendations to all ages, assist with the check-out stations, give/assist with basic makerspace instruction, and give instruction on how to use the online card catalog, the Internet, print station, and library research databases.
  • Prepare, implement, and collect statistics from system programming.
  • Develop, prepare, present, or help out occasionally with educational, cultural, or library-oriented programs and events for all ages within the library, or the community.
  • Use cash register and credit card machine software.
  • Collect and clear overdue fines and lost materials costs.
  • Explain library policies and procedures. Other duties as requested or assigned.
To Be Successful You...
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. College degree highly desired
  • Must be US citizen for passport application acceptance
  • Must have excellent customer service, problem solving, computer, and communication skills
  • Must have excellent experience using Word, Excel, Office, Outlook, and the Internet.
  • Knowledge of library databases is needed. Will need to be able to give instruction on the online card catalog, the Internet, library research databases, e-readers, and library equipment
  • A good knowledge of literature that appeals to children, teens, and adults is needed
  • Must be able to step in and present a story time, program, or outreach at a moment's notice
  • Must be able to adapt rapidly to change and accept uncertainty
  • The ability to work in a team based atmosphere is needed
  • Must be organized and efficient
  • Must be able to effectively hear, read (including cursive), write, speak, and understand English, as well as have sufficient dexterity and visual acuity to meet the job requirements
  • Lifting, crouching, stooping, and other similar movements are required.
  • The ability to move book carts that could weigh up to 200 pounds is needed, as well as being able to navigate steps on the bookmobile.
  • Must have regular and predictable attendance as required.

10 hours per week, rotating schedule  
Week One: 
Monday 8-12 noon, Tuesday 8-11 am, Wednesday 8-11 am.
Week Two:
Thursday 8-11 am, Friday 8-11 am, Saturday 8-12 noon.

Description: Job RC
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Shelve library materials in the proper location according to the Dewey Decimal system or alphabetically.
  • Maintain shelves by shifting materials.
  • Evaluate the condition of materials.
  • Check materials in using the automated sorting machine. Reach into bins and place items on carts.
  • Sort book drop materials.
  • Pull discards, holds, and materials from lists.
  • Answer directional questions.
  • Clerical duties and other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Prior computer experience is necessary.
  • Must be able to use library equipment such as computers and printers.
  • Must be able to use conveyor belt machinery.
  • Must be able to file by the Dewey Decimal System and alphabetically.
  • Must have attention to detail, be accurate, organized, able to prioritize, multi-task, and have good time management skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and with others.
  • Must have the ability to move book crates that could weigh up to 75 pounds when full, and move book carts that could weigh up to 200 pounds when full.
  • Must have regular and predictable attendance
