Position:
Library Associate, part time, 2 openings

Hours:
Part-time, 24 hours per week, generally 8:00 - 5:00 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (Job 1)
            Part-time, 24 hours per week, generally 8:00 - 5:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (Job2)

Salary:
Starts at $9.85 per hour, more depending on experience.

Your bookmobile adventure would include:
- Driving the bookmobile to various sites and help patrons once parked.
- Identifying routes, drive, maneuver, park, monitor, and secure the bookmobile.
- Desk-type responsibilities include checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, assist patrons with the selection and location
   of books, collecting overdue fines and lost material costs, helping patrons with library equipment and explaining policies and                 procedures.
- Develop, create, and present several monthly programs or story times.
- Opening and closing duties.
- Other duties as requested or assigned.

The successful applicant will have these qualities:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must have a valid driver license and be insurable on the library's insurance.
Must be able to safely drive a 30' commercial vehicle following a designated route.
Must have good knowledge of children’s, young adult, and adult literature.
Must be able to read (including cursive), write and understand English effectively.
Must be able to work in areas that may contain dust or other possible allergens.
Must have regular and predictable attendance

-Prior experience using computers, a cash register, and credit card machine is needed
-Must be able to multi-task, prioritize, work independently, and handle confidential information
-Must be able to quickly and favorably respond to new or changed responsibilities and/or situations.
-Must be organized and efficient.
-Must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 30 pounds of library materials up and down steps, as well as move loaded book crates   that could weigh approximately 50 pounds, and move loaded book carts that could weigh up to 200 pounds on and off vehicle and   inside library building
-Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate library equipment.
-Must have sufficient visual acuity to distinguish letters, words, and numbers
-Must be able to read (including cursive), write and understand English effectively
-Must have regular and predictable attendance.

2 Library Aide Positions

Make a difference and enrich our community by joining the Middletown Library aide team where you'll enhance our patrons experience with your accurate shelving and maintaining the shelves.

Hours: 
10 hours per week with a varying schedule, primarily evenings and weekends

$8.55 - $9.32 per hour, pay depends on experience.

As a library aide you would... 

- Provide excellent customer service to all patrons and co-workers
- Shelve library materials in the proper location according to the Dewey Decimal system or alphabetically
- Evaluate returned materials for damage or missing items following established procedures
- Maintain the shelves by shifting materials and evaluating the condition of materials
- Using a list, pull books from shelves for holds and discards
- Check materials in using an automated conveyor belt sorting machine
- Answer patron’s directional questions

As part of the aide team you'll need to...

- Be at least 16 years of age. Have excellent customer service skills, a strong work/service ethic, and sound judgment
- Have computer experience Be comfortable and able to use library equipment such as computers, printers, and conveyor belt machinery    - File by the Dewey Decimal System and alphabetically Have attention to detail, be accurate, organized, able to prioritize,
   multi-task positively handle and adapt to change, and have good time management skills.
- Work independently and with others Be able to reach the top and bottom book shelves and move items on and off the shelves
- Move book crates that could weigh up to 50 pounds when full, as well as move carts or bins weighing up to 200 pounds when full
- Have regular and predictable physical attendance

DESCRIPTION:
As a makerspace specialist you would:
•    Answer basic and complex STEAM and library related questions using print and electronic resources
•    Create and present engaging & appropriate weekly STEAM related educational, cultural, or library-oriented programs, school visits, outreach, and group tours for all ages
•    Provide technology training and instruction, assist, mentor, and help those using the makerspace
•    Operate, maintain, calibrate, clean, and troubleshoot equipment such as 3D, vinyl & sublimation printers; engravers; presses, and audio visual production equipment
•    Assist with implementing new and emerging technology, services, and projects for the makerspace area

To be successful you:
•    Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a STEAM related degree is highly desired
•    Must have proficiency with various hardware and software such as 3D printers; cutters; engravers, sewing machines; audio/visual production equipment; MS Office; the Internet, and ideally the library catalog
•    Need experience working/familiarity with the operation and processes involved with DIY making; knowledge of 3D modeling and printing/fabrication; audio/visual production; and the usage of basic hand tools
•    Must be able to effectively and creatively problem solve, particularly when procedures are not clearly defined; make independent judgments in the absence of supervision; be adaptable; positively handle and adapt to change; and be organized and efficient
•    Must be able to quickly and favorably respond to new or changed responsibilities and/or situations and be able to multi-task, prioritize, and handle confidential information
