MIDDLETOWN

Position:  Library Specialist, Youth Services, part-time, 24 hours per week.

Description:
Provide friendly, helpful information in the youth services department answering information and reference questions using print and electronic resources.  Develop, prepare, publicize, promote, order supplies, create fliers, brochures and implement regular weekly story times, programs, and events that are lively, exciting, creative, and animated. Desk responsibilities include answering the telephone, program registration, providing directional information, reader’s advisory, and giving instruction on how to use the online catalog, databases, the Internet and other library equipment. Work closely with librarians and other staff members.  Other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications:  Must have high school diploma or equivalent. A college degree is highly desired. Must have valid driver’s license. Must have excellent customer service and communication skills. Prior experience working with young children is necessary as well as having a strong knowledge of children’s literature, activities, and programs appropriate for children. Must have experience using Word, Excel, graphics programs, and the Internet.  Must be able to give instruction on the library catalog, the Internet, databases and library equipment. Must be able to effectively hear, read, write, speak, and understand English as well as sufficient dexterity and visual acuity to meet the job requirements. Sitting, standing, bending, lifting, crouching, stooping, and the ability to move full book carts and crates weighing up to 75 pounds is needed. Must have regular and predictable physical attendance as required.

Salary:  Starts at $12.73 per hour, depending on experience.

Benefits: Once eligible, benefits include paid time off, holidays, unpaid vacation, and sick time. Dental, and vision insurance is offered. Enrollment in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System and direct deposit is required.

Hours:  Regularly scheduled 24 hours per week. Hours include days, one evening per week, every other Saturday 12:00 – 4:00, every 4th Sunday 12:00 – 5:00, and other hours as scheduled.


Position: Library Associate-Circulation, Part-time, regularly scheduled 20 hours per week  

Description:  Provide excellent customer service while helping patrons at the circulation desk.  Desk responsibilities include checking out materials for patrons, assisting with the self check out machine, issuing library cards, collecting overdue fines and lost material costs, helping with the reserve and hold materials, assisting with the copier, and explaining policies and procedures to patrons.  Other duties include emptying the bookdrop, checking in materials, inspecting and sorting returned materials and other duties as requested or assigned.  

Qualifications:  Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  Must have excellent customer service, communication skills, and math skills. Prior experience using computers, a cash register, and credit card machine is needed.  Must be able to multi-task, prioritize, and handle confidential information.  Must be able to quickly and favorably respond to new or changed responsibilities and/or situations.  Must be able to hear, read, write, speak, and understand English effectively.  Must have visual acuity to distinguish letters, words, and numbers.  The above position requires standing and moving, bending, lifting, sitting, and crouching. Carrying full book crates and moving fully loaded book carts that could weigh up to 75 pounds is required.  Regular and predictable physical attendance is required.  
Salary:  $9.43 per hour, depending on experience   Hours:  This is considered a regularly scheduled 20 hour per week job. The days and hours include Thursday and Friday evenings, every other Saturday, and one Sunday per month (shift starts at 12:00 noon or after).

Provide excellent customer service while helping patrons desk, while roving, or on the telephone. Answer information and reference questions using print and electronic resources. May create, schedule, prepare and implement educational, cultural, or library-oriented programs for patrons of all ages. Desk and roving responsibilities include providing directional information, reader’s advisory, issue library cards, collect fines & fees, and give instruction on how to use the online card catalog, the Internet, print station, e-reader tablets, library databases and the self-check machine.  Explain library policies and procedures. Other duties as requested or assigned.

Qualifications: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. College degree desired. Must have excellent customer service, problem solving, and communication skills. Must have excellent experience using Word, Excel, the Internet, e-reader tablets, and library databases. Must have excellent knowledge of literature that appeals to patrons of all ages. Experience in developing and implementing exciting, creative, and engaging programs and events for all ages is highly desired. Will need to be able to give instruction on the online card catalog, the Internet, databases, self-check machine, and other library equipment. Must be organized and efficient. Bending, lifting, sitting, crouching, stooping, and the ability to move full book carts or crates that could weigh up to 75 pounds is needed. Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate library equipment. Must have sufficient visual acuity to distinguish letters, words, and numbers. Must have regular and predictable attendance as required.

Hours: Regularly scheduled 20 hours per week, on a 4-week rotation of:
Week 1: Monday 1-7, Tuesday 10-3, Wednesday 10-2, Thursday 10-3
Week 2: Monday 1-7, Tuesday 10-3, Wednesday 10-2, Thursday 10-3
Week 3: Monday 1-7, Tuesday 10-3, Wednesday 10-2, Saturday 10-3
Week 4: Monday 1-7, Tuesday 10-3, Wednesday 10-2, Thursday 10-3


Salary:  Starts at $9.43 per hour, depending on experience
