MidPointe's Summer Reading Program is Out of This World

“A Universe of Stories” is the theme for this year’s popular “Summer Reading Program” for all ages at MidPointe Library.

A longtime tradition of free, family fun, “Summer Reading” will take place June 1 through July 31 at all MidPointe locations: Middletown, West Chester, Trenton, Monroe, Liberty Township (second floor of Liberty Center) and onboard its Library on Wheels Bookmobile.

With an ever-growing collection of half-a-million items, MidPointe Library will literally become a universe of reading and listening as Summer Reading participants check out and enjoy age-appropriate books, eBooks and/or audiobooks on any subject matter, fiction or nonfiction.

They can track their reading/listening on special logs with the goal of winning prizes. Tracking logs will be available at each MidPointe location during the program.

Reading age categories are: birth through pre-school, kindergarten through grade 5, young adults in grades 6-12 and adults 18 and older.  Participation can begin anytime before July 31.

For decades MidPointe’s Summer Reading programs have been a hit with all ages.

Educators are among Summer Reading’s biggest fans. That’s because reading throughout the summer not only entertains and informs students, it also helps them maintain and improve their reading and listening skills while school is closed for vacation, they say. The goal is prevention of what educators call the “Summer Slide,” when skills learned in the previous school year are often neglected and/or forgotten.

In keeping with Summer Reading tradition and this year’s “universe” theme, MidPointe librarians have invited a constellation of guests to entertain and educate participants. This year’s stars and their topics include:
“An Astronomical Adventure with MetroParks”
“I Am : Declaring Ourselves Through Poetry,” presented by WordPlay Cincy
“Back to the Moon” presented by Drake Planetarium
“Radical Rocket Science” presented by Crystal Clear
“Creatures of the Galaxy” presented by Animal Tales
“I Need My Space! Magic Show” presented by Matthew Taylor
“The Best of Science Matters”
“Space is the Place” presented by Wump Mucket Puppets
“Reflections of Me” presented by WordPlay Cincy.
Programming dates, times and locations are available at www.midpointelibrary.org > Events.

Throughout the year, the MidPointe universe is continuously adding high-quality on-shelf and online material to meet the needs/desires of approximately 200,000 persons in its service area. That includes residents of Lemon, Madison and Wayne townships who are regularly visited by the Library on Wheels Bookmobile.
