Best-selling children’s author and illustrator David Catrow, whose Scholastic book series “Max Spaniel” has sold over a million copies, will welcome fans, share his stories and sign books at Sabin Hall at Liberty Center in Liberty Township on Saturday, October 13, at 1:00 PM.
Catrow’s appearance, free and open to the public, is sponsored by MidPointe Library System, which will open a new, full-service branch on the second floor of the shopping/entertainment complex this fall.
Travis Bautz, MidPointe Library System director, said Catrow’s visit will be an exciting way to introduce young readers and their families to the new library branch while conveying the importance of reading for all ages. MidPointe’s catalog includes many Catrow books, including the “Max Spaniel” series, Bautz added.
Catrow has over seventy published works in print, including several “New York Times” best sellers and two “New York Times” best illustrated books. He continues to develop projects with prestigious publishers Simon and Schuster, Penguin Putnam and Harcourt/Houghton Mifflin, and HarperCollins among others.
In addition to publishing books, Catrow has worked extensively in film and TV. He spent over a year developing visuals for films such as “Horton Hears A Who,” “Despicable Me” and others. He has also done development work adapting the Stuart Little character for television and on the animated TV series “Plantzilla,” based on the popular children’s books by Jerdine Nolen.
Catrow’s syndicated editorial cartoons have been featured in over 1000 newspapers in the United States and Canada.
Catrow’s Ohio fans may not realize he has links to the Buckeye State. He started out as a pre-med major at Kent State University and later worked as a paramedic for ten years. During that time he also did freelance artwork for the “Cleveland Plain Dealer” and the “Akron Beacon-Journal.”
