November is National Novel Writing Month

By Lisa Duncan

Have you been secretly harboring a dream to write that novel that’s been swimming around in your head for years? Now is your chance! November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), which began as a challenge amongst 21 friends in 1999 in San Francisco and swelled to over 300,000 world-wide as of 2013. The idea is to write 50,000 words (the length of a short novel/novella) in the month of November. Could you be the next Sara Gruen (Water For Elephants) or Erin Morgenstern (The Night Circus); just 2 of many best-sellers begun during NaNoWriMo?

Join us at our Middletown branch to kick off NaNoWriMo with a bang! Publishing expert, Carol Cartaino will be speaking on the ‘Pros and Cons of Self-Publishing’ on October 27. Carol comes to us with 40 years’ experience helping writers over the hurdles of publishing. She was an editor for Prentice-Hall for 10 years and editor-in-chief of Writer’s Digest Books in Cincinnati for 10 years. For the past 25 years, she has worked as a freelance editor and has written books of her own. Carol will also be speaking about ‘Editing Your Book’ at our West Chester branch’s Writers’ Group on November 9. As always, these programs are free!

MidPointe has several other free programs for writers in November:
