Laser cutting is a precise technology that uses a high-powered laser to cut or engrave various materials based on a digital design. It can be used on materials such as wood, acrylic, and coated metals.
How to Get Started
- Training: Book an appointment for an in-person training session with a Makerspace Technician.
Available Equipment
- Epilog MINI 24 (40 Watt) – 24”x12” work area
- Rotary attachment available for water bottles, etc.
- Thunder Nova 35 (80 Watt) – 35.4”x23.6” work area
Materials We Offer
- Baltic Birch Plywood: Smooth and durable wood panels that provide clean, precise cuts and a consistent finish.
- Acrylic: Clear plastic that cuts with clean, smooth edges and excellent transparency.
- MDF: Engineered wood panels with a smooth and uniform surface, ideal for laser cutting.
Patrons may bring their own materials for use with the laser cutter, subject to approval by a Makerspace staff member. There is no cost to use the laser when you provide your own materials.
Cost
Materials can be purchased in the Makerspace by the sheet. Please refer to our price list for current rates.

- Engraving: Bring a digital image file of what you would like to engrave (JPEG, PNG, PDF, SVG).
- Cutting: Bring a digital vector file with your cut lines (SVG, EPS, AI).
