Research Databases: Genealogy & Local History

Most of these premium materials are available from home, work, or school (unless
otherwise noted) in addition to the library. When connecting to the research databases remotely, you will need your library card number and PIN.

African American Heritage: African American online genealogy resource; includes federal census records, marriage and cohabitation records, military draft and service records, registers of slaves and free(d) persons of color, and Freedman's Bank.

Ancestry Library Edition: (In Library Use Only) Library edition of the consumer online genealogy resource; includes census & voter lists, birth, marriage & death records, military records, immigration & travel records, and historical newspapers & publications.

The Crout Collection: Digital image collection from the works of Mr. George Crout, an educator and Middletown local historian.  During his lifetime, Mr. Crout collected historical documents pertaining to this area (particularly Middletown) and also wrote several articles and books on Middletown history.  To view the original written materials, please visit the Ohio Room of the MidPointe Library Middletown.

NewsBank - America's Obituaries & Death Notices: A collection of newspaper obituaries and death notices from across the United States.

Ohio Historical Society Searchable Databases: Ohio Historical Society's primary source and research tool resources; includes African American experience in Ohio, Civil War documents, military rosters, Ohio memory, death certificate index, Ohio's medal of honor recipients, and more.

Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps: Large scale street plans, including building outlines and boundaries from 1867 to 1970 - useful for historical research.

Veterans of West Chester and Liberty Township Photography Archive - The MidPointe Library System and Miami University's Voice of America Learning Center have collaborated to honor local heroes by launching an online archive, cataloging images from veterans of West Chester and Liberty Township. Veterans from all branches of the Armed Forces are invited to submit photos from their time in military service.
