Here’s your chance to see just how creative our youth of today can be when it comes to solving problems and inventing solutions.  On April 6th, 2017 the Monroe Local School District will hold their Invention Convention competition at Monroe Elementary School 230 Yankee Rd. Monroe Ohio 45050.  Local judges (including the Mayor of Monroe, MidPointe Library System Director, Chamber of Commerce President/CEO, Director of Ohio Living Retirement Center, a retired Science teacher/author, Monroe Local School Superintendent and a board member) will be selecting the top student inventors to participate at the Ohio Invention Convention & Entrepreneurship Competition on July 30, 2017 at the Ohio State Fair.

Offered free to participating schools - The Invention Convention program inspires students (grades K-8) to create and problem solve while developing their inventions. Over one million Ohio kids to date have participated since 1993, creating useful, sometimes crazy and always interesting inventions. Monroe students have been working since October gathering problems, brainstorming and creating solutions.

MidPointe Library System is the only Ohio library to offer an Invention League program. This innovative program was offered to the school by the MidPointe Library System Monroe branch and provided a unique partnership with the library, the school and the community of Monroe. Local business persons and community members provided assistance to students completing the new Entrepreneurship portion of the required Student Journal. Mentors from AKSteel, Quaker Chemical, Cincinnati State, PAC Worldwide, MidPointe Library, Monroe High School, efflorescentmetals, and One Stop Printing Solutions, volunteered their time at the school on March 2nd and 3rd.

Schools and districts were invited to participate in this year's program in which the top student inventors from across the region will compete at the Ohio Invention Convention & Entrepreneurship Competition.  Students will compete for educational scholarships and other prizes. The completed Student Journal may be used as an actual patent application.  The Invention Convention also sponsors a 'Teacher of Excellence' award for a deserving teacher. The winning teacher is invited on stage at the state competition and wins a great prize package for their classroom.
