Early literacy has had a big push in the US the last few years; from making Preschool options available to more families to starting the “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” campaign, it is something that tends to be showing up more often than not in the news. MidPointe Middletown is fortunate to have many community partnerships who also see the value and importance in early literacy. One of our partnerships is with the Middletown Community Foundation. Through the Middletown Community Foundation, we are able to offer children in our surrounding area access to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The Imagination Library will mail an age appropriate book to children every month until they turn 5 years old. We have had many families tell us how excited their children are when they receive their book in the mail every month. MidPointe Middletown has applications available in the Youth Services department and we will even mail the application in for you!

Another community partnership that we work regularly with is the Robert “Sonny” Hill Community Center, located just a short distance from MidPointe Middletown. The Robert “Sonny” Hill Community Center is home to the Parent Resource Center for families in Middletown. The Parent Resource Center has evolved greatly over the past couple of years and is a tremendous help to families. MidPointe Middletown works with Butler County Educational Service Center (BCESC) and the Parent Resource Center to plan and implement Playgroups twice a month for children ages 2 ½ to 5 years. Playgroup is every 2nd and 4th Thursday at the Parent Resource Center from 10:30am - 12:00pm. Playgroup is run by a Home Visiting Coordinator from Butler County Educational Service Center as well as a Speech Therapist from Abilities First. BCESC and Abilities First spend the first hour of Playgroup participating in educational activities. From 11:30am-12:00pm, MidPointe Middletown coordinates with both BCESC and Abilities First to provide a storytime based on the theme for the week.

MidPointe Library is undoubtably a big supporter of early literacy, both out in our communities as well as within the walls of our 4 branches. Be sure to check out the weekly storytimes offered at all locations of MidPointe Library System!
